About The Session

This is a 30 minute session (25 if a Thursday session) running as many 1k efforts at your current best 5k pace with a 2 minute recovery after each effort.
The session will be done in groups with others of similar ability. The 1k marker is approx 100 meters from the end of one complete lap of Paddy Freeman Playing Fields (see above map for the start and finish points)
Walk or jog back to start as your 2 minute recovery and repeat for 30 minutes. (25 mins if Thursday session )
We will be trying to organise groups into best 5k race times so have an idea of your time when we organise the groups.

Suggested pace for 1k efforts. (Times are for current best 5k)
Group 1 – under 18 mins 5k. Effort times under 3:40 km pace
Group 2 – 18:00 – 19:30 5k (3:40 – 3:50 km pace)
Group 3 – 19:30 – 21:30 5k (3:50 – 4:20 km pace)
Group 4 – 21:30 – 24:00 5k (4:20 – 4:50 km pace)
Group 5 – 24:00 – 26:00 5k (4:50 – 5:10 km pace)
Group 6 – 26:00 – 28:00 5k (5:10 – 5:40 km pace)
Group 7 – 28:00 – 30:00 5k (5:40 – 6:00 km pace)
Group 8 – 30 mins plus 5k (6 mins plus km pace)

The Route
Starting on the path parallel to Freeman Road and next to Castle Farm Car Park, the route follows the path around Paddy Freeman Playing Fields. It is largely a flat route with a slight descent in the first 500m and a slight incline in the second 500m. If you are familiar with the Jesmond Dene parkun this route accommodates a section of it but in reverse.

Please watch out for pedestrians, dogs and some street furniture. The paths are narrow and single file most of the way around. We do not have right of way.
