Track and Field Report

Sunday the 12th June saw the 2nd round of the Northern Athletics Track and Field league.

4 Heaton Harriers traveled down to Middlesbrough sports village to compete for the club in a range of events across the day.

Barbara Bone made her debut in the T&F and competed in just about every field event going. Her stand out performance was a 6.03m shot putt which placed her third overall on the day, gaining some great points for the club in the process.

Anth decided after his marathon training to try his luck in becoming the next Usain Bolt trying out the 100m, 200m and also a more endurance event in the 800m. He ran really well, clocking 15.6 seconds for the 100, 32.7 for the 200m and 2.51 for the 800m.

David Young came down to do the 5000m on the track and came 2nd after a good battle on the track between himself and another two competitors. He was just out kicked for the win. This was David’s first 5000m on the track and there will be more to come as the season progresses. He also ran the 400m as a warm up for the 5000m.

Calum ran the steeple, 800m and the long jump. There were sadly no Pbs today but some points picked up in each event.

The next event is the 10th July at Shildon track. It would be really good if Heaton had a good turn out for the last two events. It is a team event and although we compete it is a very friendly atmosphere. If you want to come down and help officiate then this is also something that is possible as we get points for people helping out. If you are interested in this then speak to Calum at training or send him a message on Facebook.
