Organised by Elswick Harriers starting from Newburn Leisure Centre towards Wylam along the Waggonway and back, the Newburn River Run is advertised as a ‘fast and flat’ 5-miler. Despite it being a hot evening we certainly did see some fast times from our runners taking part on Wednesday.

The on-form Ian Norman achieved 1st MV60 adding another age category win to his outstanding 2022 record.
The first lady home for Heaton was Dani Smythe in a time of 31.21 and 2nd overall female.

Thursday 16th June 2022- Angel View Race
Organised by Low Fell Running club the Angel View Race starts and finishes under the iconic Angel of The North. The course is certainly undulating for both the junior and senior races over grass and country paths.
First up was the junior race which was around 2km in length. With over 50 juniors competing it was a fast start however our junior Heaton Harriers paced the race well and achieved solid performances. 1st home for the club was Finley Smith in 16th place overall (6th U13 boy), with his brother Jake Smith closely behind in 18th place (8th U13 boy). A strong performance from 9-year-old Euan McKinnon finishing 35th overall (9th U11 boy).

Again, a fast start with Heaton Harrier’s Lewis Roberts taking third position within the first 0.5 miles of the race, and our junior coach Jason Wall also establishing a strong position early in the race. Lewis held onto his position throughout the race and stormed through the finish in 3rd place overall, in a time of 33.30, and the first Heaton Harrier home.
