Ian Norman Wins England Vest!

We are thrilled to share the news that the evergreen Ian Norman has been selected to run for England in the Tenby Half-Marathon in July as part of the English Master’s Team.

Heaton Harrier’s Ian Norman

Ian’s 2022 Brass Monkey Half-Marathon time of 82:05 made him eligible to apply to represent England at the Tenby Half. However, selection is not solely based on or guaranteed by achieving a minimum qualifying time set out by England Athletics. Only a maximum of 8 athletes per 10-year age band category can be selected as part of this process. This is decided upon by a panel and takes into consideration current form and consistency in times achieved at races. Therefore, being selected for the England team in the 55-64 age category is a massive achievement and as a club, we are delighted Ian was rewarded with a prestigious England vest.

Ian has been a member of Heaton Harriers for many years and represented the club at both road races, relays, and cross-country events.  Ian’s performances at races over the years have seen him ranked high in the overall results and in the last few years, consistently taking the top prize in his age category.

In 2022 alone Ian has won 1st V60 Male at the North-East Masters XC Championships, Brass Monkey Half Marathon, Sunderland City 10K, Thirsk 10-miler, North Tyneside 10K, Clive Cookson 10K and the Pier to Pier. A very long list of achievements in just over 6-months and we are sure more to come in 2022.

A massive congratulations from all at Heaton Harriers and good luck for your upcoming race Ian!
