Cross Country Season is just around the corner so we are having a Cross Country taster on Saturday 17th September at the Rising Sun Country Park. The taster is designed for newer members or anyone who have not done cross country before but everyone is welcome to join us – the more the merrier.
We’re meeting at The Barking Dog entrance to the Rising Sun at 9:45am on Saturday 17th September. We plan to run 3 miles around the Rising Sun Pit Heap as a group so you get a feel of a typical Cross Country terrain. Club Captains, Scott and Debbie, will go through how the Cross Country system works. This will include explaining the racing packs (slow, medium and fast), the scoring system, key rules to follow, expected terrains/distances, footwear/general advice and what to expect on the day. If you have any additional questions please feel free to ask Scott or Debbie. Other members who have Cross Country experience will be present as well.
For those who are unfamiliar, Cross Country is one of the highlights of our running calendar. Heaton Harriers compete in the North East Harrier League across several fixtures against other clubs in the Tyneside, County Durham and Northumberland counties. The club pays your entry fee on your behalf for a season which is included in your annual membership fee so if you are interested in running Cross Country please make note of the below fixtures for the 2022/23 season. Details of how to sign up for the season will be available shortly but it will be through the Spond app so if you have yet to signup for Spond please do so ASAP.
