We don’t normally do a weekend roundup but with so many events happening at the weekend and with so much success to brag about we thought we would consolidate all of this good news into one place. So here goes…
London Marathon
Huge congratulations to the nine Heaton Harriers who completed the London Marathon yesterday and thanks to everyone else who either supported our runners down in London, watched out for a glimpse of White and Green on TV (I’m sure I spotted Fiona), or tracked the runners on the London Marathon app. On the Sunday long run, it was the main topic of conversation so we will look forward to hearing all the anecdotes at training.
First home for the club and in an incredible time of 2:39:16 was James McKenzie. A huge marathon PB for James there, well done Tigger. Not far behind James was Eddie Knight with a very consistent, even-paced 2:45:32. Below are consolidated results of the Heaton Harriers including Xena who ran the Virtual London Marathon. Well done to everyone.

Kielder
A strong cohort of Heaton Harriers traveled up to the picturesque Kielder Forest on Sunday to participate in either the Half or Full Marathons. Kielder could not be further away from London in many ways but everyone who runs up there always comments on how unique it is so it is definitely one to do in the future if you have not yet run there.
Five Heaton Harriers competed in the half with Dani Smythe first home for the club in 11th place overall and 2nd female finisher in a time of 1:27:54. Given the terrain of Kielder that is an incredible time, well done Dani. 1st male home for the club was Ben Rea in 26th place overall and a time of 1:33:13. Elaine Waters was 1st in the F60 age category with a great time of 1:48:54.
There was more success in the full marathon with Mark Hope finishing 3rd place overall in a time of 3:01:38. Vicki Addison was also 1st in the F55 age category in a time of 4:23:39. Well done to the six Heaton Harriers who completed the full marathon. Consolidated Kielder Results below:

Redcar
Another local half marathon with completely different terrain to Kielder. Redcar is one of the flattest half marathons around and if the weather conditions are right you’re on for a PB.
Heaton Harriers had one sole competitor this year, Bryan Ankers who ran a superb time of 1:25:59 to finish in 16th place overall. Another great run from the ever-improving Bryan.
Also at the ‘Redcar Running Festival’ was the Zetland 10k where Janette Kilgour finished in a time of 1:17:58. George Routledge competed in the Beacon 5k at Redcar as well coming home in a great time of 35:37.
Chester
Also this weekend it was the Chester Marathon. Another marathon event where some Heaton Harriers have ran good times in the past. This year it was down to David Coe to represent the club coming home in 84th place in a time of 2:52:50. Well done David.
Special mention should also go to Ben Cook this weekend. On Sunday Ben completed the 2022 Trail Outlaws Urban Trail Series running the Peshaw 10k in a time of 53:09 and finishing 17th overall. This is just 1 week after Ben ran over 100km (62+ miles) of the Pilgrims Ultra 100 miles before he had to scratch. Picking yourself up mentally after such an experience is no mean feat so huge kudos to Ben.
